Tell us about your business, its history, and how you build customer loyalty.
Demetrios is a company that has made a worldwide impact in the design, distribution, and retailing of women’s formalwear, with a chain of Bridal by Demetrios salons and the recent expansion into Social Occasion and Prom divisions. We purchased the company in 1980 and virtually overnight turned it into a thriving international company with the latest styles and more unique looks in the industry. Demetrios is also the first design house to introduce a magazine for the Bridal division, a title called For the Bride, featuring a wide selection with the goal of presenting the most versatile bridal styles available today.
Who is your main designer or designers?
Demetrios creates its own designs.
What divisions (e.g., Prom, Pageant, Social Occasion, Bridal, etc.) do you design for and market?
Demetrios’ clients can shop within the Bridal, Prom, Social Occasions, and Pageant divisions.
What size ranges do you offer?
Sizes 0 – 20 for the Prom collection, and 4 – 28 in the Bridal and Special Occasion divisions.
Tell us about your web site.
Demetriosprom.com and Demetriosbride.com provide our clients with a wealth of information about our collections, retail salons, and trunk shows. Within each collection, individual styles can be examined in separate windows that comprise blow-up photographs of the style, the style number, and a description.
Please identify three characteristics about your designs and business services that you are known for.
We take credit for introducing fashion to the industry with mermaid styles, sheaths, one-shoulder, sexy, and romantic dresses being examples of our fashion-forward philosophy. Demetrios was also the first design house to advertise every dress in a magazine, called For the Bride. Most of all, Demetrios is well-known for the superior customer service and the most diversified line and looks within every category we promote.
How do you keep your design ideas current?
With our company maintaining a presence both inside and outside the U.S., we remain focused on fashion trends throughout the world, and are often at the leading edge of new styling developments that translate into the design ideas that eventually influence the look of all our collections.
As a designer, where do you receive the most satisfaction?
Our satisfaction is only achieved when we create a satisfied customer. We produce trunk shows at retail boutiques across America throughout the year, and when we attend trunk shows and see a bride in our dress and can see how beautiful she looks and feels, that’s when we are satisfied that we’ve created a dream come true.
What fashion looks and fabric-usage trends do you predict will emerge in the coming year or two?
We predict that the strapless gown will remain a very strong look, with the halter neckline coming into greater demand as well. With regard to fabrics and detaling, look for silk, lace, and outstanding and delicate beadwork to continue to gain acceptance in all divisions.
What design trends do you predict will fade from the fashion scene?
We believe that dresses that are made from heavy fabrics will lose their appeal in the coming years. Based on our experience with customers, today’s modern ladies prefer a lighter dress.
What aspects of the fashion business bring you the greatest satisfaction?
It’s really all about creating something beautiful for the most important day of a woman’s life.
