IMTA:

The last word in achieving talent and modeling success.

The future stars have the opportunity to see their idols in action, especially within the darkened theaters of nearby Broadway. Fun? It’s guaranteed in New York!

By Carl Dunn

RISING STARS, SHINING MOMENTS – Models, actors, singers, dancers, and other performance-ready competitors take major steps toward their career goals at the annual IMTA convention in NYC.
IMTA. The initials tell you all there is to know. The International Modeling and Talent Association is the organization where the premier talent in modeling, acting, and the performing arts showcase their individual talents for an international group of scouts and agents from around the globe. Their creative quest? To be discovered and pursue a glamorous career upon the stages and runways of the worldwide stage.

Stepping into the entertainment spotlight in the heart of the fashion capital of New York City, thousands of talented individuals from a diverse age demographic vie for the attention of the attending agents to show they have what it takes to stand apart from the crowd. With a global attendance, agents are looking for the unique individual who can capture the eye of the camera and command the top billing of the stage. And with such a diverse group from all corners of the country, neither the talent nor the industry decision makers are often disappointed. If you are seeking the crème-de-la-crème, IMTA can be your first choice in the search for stars.

The yearly weeklong convention in New York City is a whirlwind of activity. Offerings range from modeling competitions (either in solo or group performances), cold readings and soliloquies for actors, vocal performances in a range of stylistic nuances, and dance impressions (from classical to hip-hop), to an abundance of convention seminars on a variety of subjects for both attendee and parent. These include such topics as how to succeed in the entertainment business and what an attendee can expect if he or she is talented and lucky enough to be chosen for the coveted call back or — the ultimate goal — to be signed on-the-spot by an agent.

But IMTA is not all-work-and-no-play. This is New York we’re visiting. What better coach and motivational teacher can anyone desire other than the Big Apple? Throughout the week, conventioneers may be invited to visit local production and casting offices in The City That Never Sleeps. One can only guess the percentage of successful auditions by the beaming faces appearing throughout the corridors of the host facilities. Additionally, the future stars have the opportunity to see their idols in action, especially within the darkened theaters of nearby Broadway. Fun? It’s guaranteed in New York!

While not competing, attending vocational seminars, or just unwinding during an unforgettable New York theater production, IMTA attendees also may take advantage of the plethora of resources designed to help perfect the craft of their dreams. From books, tapes, portfolios, and souvenir attire from companies such as Models Mart and working model and author Aaron Marcus, to class offerings at the New York School for Film and Television and comp cards from companies that prepare them on the spot — each individual IMTA participant can continue to learn while actively competing. All this combines for a packed week of competition, learning, and loads of entertainment.

Where can these young talents go from here? How about Milan, Japan, Germany, France, or Los Angeles and New York? Outstanding models routinely get the opportunity to work and live in the cities of their wildest dreams. There is only one catch, only one demand: You have to truly believe in your own talents, know your own limitations, and desire to stretch your own boundaries, be willing to learn and take criticism, and, most important of all, never lose sight of your dream. In New York, thousands of dreams can be granted, and at IMTA, those “dreams come true” have become a routine reality.
WHEN IT ALL WORKS OUT – After appearing in individual competitions, winning performers are elated to receive onstage recognition.
