Summer is coming soon and it is the perfect time to check and replenish all your beauty supplies, prepare your skin for a wonderful time out on the beach and in the sun while getting a perfect tan, and protecting yourself from sunburns, skin cancer and dry lips.
There are some things you need to pay attention to so you can have an enjoyable summer and avoid disasters. Regular foundation can feel heavy during the summer heat. Instead, use a tinted moisturizer with SPF that will protect your face from damaging UVA/UVB rays (A= Aging ; B= Burning) and still give you an even, fresh looking skin. Choose oil free or water based foundation if you need more coverage, and make sure to match the color to your tanned skin. Apply loose powder to set.
A light shade of bronzer on the cheekbones and chin will enhance your suntan for a healthier look, but do not overuse bronzer as it can look unnatural. For eye shadow, use lighter colors, like green-gold or yellow-green that can be combined with a thin black-brown eyeliner and mascara. Remember the summer colors are like the grass burned by the sun, the sand and the pale flowers. Sunny, warm light blush and highlighters can be used for a sunshine look. Keep your creams and makeup in a small cooler when taking it with you so it doesn’t melt, especially if you are going to leave it in the car.
Megan’s Makeup
Megan is wearing a trendy summer makeup, with a gold-green summer color. It is a fabulous makeup for the evening summer look, very fashionable but at the same time lighter. This look is easy to reproduce and you can play with eye shadows and different colors to achieve this up-to-date look. It can be worn for a nighttime dinner, an evening on the boardwalk or even to a nightclub. You will feel glamorous and natural with that summer sunshine glow.
I recommend matching colors to your eyes and not to the clothes you are wearing. If you pay attention to your own eye design you will notice they have different colors inside the iris that you can match to your eye makeup. Be light on the eyeliners and do not enclose the eye, this makes the eyes look rounder and smaller. During the summer it is better to use lighter colors like brown, black-brown, navy blue or forest green. Summer is a time to look natural with a touch of tan and sunshine. Light, natural lip colors should be used for this look.
Step-By-Step
-
Megan is wearing an oil-free foundation that gave her the naturally tanned shade with a bronzer in the cheek bones and the chin for a healthy look. I used a lighter corrector under the eyes and blended well with the foundation. Loose powder was applied to set the foundation
-
Megan’s natural colors are the perfect summer colors with the brown star in her eyes. With a light pink/bluish skin tone and dark brown hair, the burned green looks great and enhances her eyes.
-
A golden-green eye shadow was applied to the eyelid base and a darker turquoise green to the crease and the outer corner of the eye with a matte white powder eye shadow in the inner upper and lower corner to brighten the eye and a bronzer in the brow bone.
-
Thin liners were used in the upper rim of the eyelid and in the lower inside rim, with an angled corner to lift the eyes. As for the black eyeliner in the lower inner rim, I only recommend its use if the eyes are big, compared to the size of the face.
-
A white eye liner on top of the black gives light to the entire eye makeup; white eyeshade is also applied in the inner upper and lower corners of the eye for brightness. I applied several coats of curling mascara, paying special attention to the outer corners of the lashes.
- A sunny, warm light coral blush was used for a perfect finish and a light bronzer for an overall summer sunshine effect on her cheekbones, chin, and brow bone.
 |
-
For her lips, a wine-golden lip shade was used with a matching lip liner to complement her skin tone.
-
Lipstick will last longer if you first fill your lips with the lip liner and then apply the lipstick on top. Lip-gloss can be worn alone or over lipstick.
-
To finish her look, her eyebrows were shaped with a matching hair color shade very softly for a natural look.
Megan’s look is just right for an evening summer occasion. The colors match flawlessly to her summer features—her eyes, skin tone and natural hair color with a bronzed, tanned natural glowing look that is natural and healthy looking.
For a day look during the summer, you can get away by using a tinted moisturizer, a bronzer, some eyeliner, mascara and a lip-gloss, but for the evening you can enhance your beautiful looks with eye shadow combinations. Depending on your eyes, color and shape, use summer colors like light coral, white and beige, browns, gold and pastel colors.
Combine light and dark eye shadow for the base and the crease, the corner of the eye. Match your lip colors to the summer eye look and use light bronzer for a healthy refined sunshine look.
You can accessorize your look with jewelry that matches your makeup, your clothing and skin color. Also sunglasses, beach bags, color earrings and bracelets will complete your summer look. |
Lock Stock & Barrel
For Megan’s Hair I chose a look with big body and beautiful curl to go along with her sparkling smile. A quick set with a 1 ½ barrel iron (cool for 10-15 min) and a little tousle with my hands and she was ready for her shoot.
