Spotlight on National Competitions
Miss Teen America
Describe your event.
It is a non-profit event.
How many divisions are included?
Three titles are awarded annually: Mrs. Globe, Mrs./Ms. U.S. Globe, and Miss U.S. Globe.
How does someone qualify to compete?
We have state preliminaries and at-large selections in states where there is not a state preliminary.
What are your judging criteria?
Personality Profile: We do not believe in set questions that can stump the delegate. Instead, we believe in seeing the delegate in a more natural speaking situation, as that is what our delegate will be exposed to throughout her year. Our Personality Profile competition is a time to present yourself as you want yourself presented. You speak about what you want to speak about. You are judged on your public speaking skills and the visual presentation of yourself. Swimsuit: This year, our theme is called, “It’s All About Me-ow,” so you can expect a purrr-fect show. We have a preliminary Swimsuit competition, (optional 1- or 2-piece), a final night Swimsuit segment where all the delegates will be showcased, and a semifinal Swimsuit competition. We do expect the delegates to be in swimsuit shape, and the competition guidelines are based on how good you look in your swimsuit and how well you present yourself. Evening Gown: All delegates compete in the preliminary Evening Gown segment, and the Top 15 compete in an outfit we provide.
Are there optional events?
We have a separate competition called, “Choice of the People,” in which the winner receives the title of Mrs. North America and an all-expense-paid trip to Mrs. Globe.
What can delegates expect to learn at your event?
Lots! One of the biggest compliments we receive after our event is that ladies tell us about how our program changed their life. We are a fund-raiser for the WIN Foundation, so during the week, as part of preparing you for the national job of being Mrs. U.S. Globe (as well as the national spokeswoman for the WIN Foundation), all of the delegates go through our Right Living training program, which teaches life tools, so that when something breaks, we have the resources to repair or rebuild our life.
Does your event support any particular values, social concerns, or non-profit program?
We are the fundraising arm for the WIN Foundation, a non-profit outreach organization for abuse and self-esteem recovery. We also support all charity work, and encourage our delegates to donate their time to the various needs in their respective states.
Why do you feel competitive events are important for participants?
Competition requires one to look deeply at one’s self and push to new limits. Each time we do this, we see we are much stronger and more capable, which serves as a catalyst to accomplish bigger dreams. We believe in the beauty of competition so much that, this year, our event is being covered by ESPN.
Why do you enjoy being a part of the competition event industry?
The pageant industry is such a fun industry for women. Not all of us can power kick a soccer ball, or hail mary a football, but that does not mean that we do not have a need for self accomplishment, goal-setting or big dreams. As a Motivational Destiny Life Coach, I believe that all of us need to always have a recent sense of accomplishment in achieving our goals and have at least five dreams that we are pursing at once. Sure, you have those who will never be happy about someone else winning, but overall, there are some incredible and inspirational women who the industry is lucky to have. At Mrs. Globe, we love meeting these ladies and watching them strive and succeed, and we enjoy the fact that Mrs. Globe can serve as a launch pad for many to do so.
