feature ● miss america volunteers L ast February, the Miss America Organization proudly announced that it was leaving Las Vegas and returning to its an- cestral home in Atlantic City. The Miss America Organization prom- ised to re-establish many cherished traditions, including the very popu- lar “Show me your shoes” Board- walk Parade. Within a few weeks of this announcement, longtime Miss America volunteer Bob Arnhym (CA) persuaded MAO Board Chairman and CEO Sam Haskell to allow him to re-establish the very popular Thursday night, “Post Per- formance” Volunteer Party. Simul- taneously, it became obvious that this event would provide the perfect backdrop to honor former Presi- dent and CEO Art McMaster, for his skillful management of the MAO during its most challenging years and for acknowledging the valuable contributions of the “grass roots” volunteers. Art was presented with a rare framed print of the At- lantic City Boardwalk, during the “Show me your shoes” parade in the mid-1960s. An emotional Art Mc- Master expressed his heartfelt ap- preciation for this moving and unexpected tribute. 54 PAGEANTRY
