MODELING & TALENT
modeling LISA WARD

Being the
Envy of the
Industry From London to Las Vegas,
success knows no bounds for
some of the biggest up-and-
coming names in modeling and
entertainment representation
renched with patriotic pride, Britain rocked and
“royaled” its way through myriad spectacular events
that made history in 2012. A million megawatt smiles
eclipsed sulky skies and rain-soaked barbecues while
the world applauded the 30th Olympiad and a jubilee
celebration fit only for the Queen, long may she reign. If one could
have bottled that intoxicating potpourri of national pride, energy,
happiness and goodwill, and passed it around the world, what a
beautiful place it would be.
Jetting into London in time to breathe in the joie-de-vivre,
stunning Lisa Ward was enjoying a private celebration. She had
been scouted and signed by Leni’s Model Management, one of
the city’s most prestigious agencies, for a two-to-three month stay,
which started in September. Leni is represented stateside by
Kathleen Longsderff, director of the New England Model Group
Agency in Manchester, New Hampshire. Kathleen told me, “Lisa
has been working nonstop since attending the European Model
Showcase in Paris two years ago. We are so excited to have her
with Leni’s.”
The European Model Showcase, which has launched many ca-
reers, was founded in 2005 by Kathleen and a longtime friend,
Cynthia Rosenberg Nelson, president of Caryn Model & Talent
Management in Minneapolis. It has enjoyed great success, espe-
cially this year when aspiring models had the privilege of wearing
D 40
PAGEANTRY designs by Valentino, Prada, Dior and other high fashion local de-
signers. This amazing coup was accomplished by Spanish photog-
rapher and fashion magazine editor, Juan Santos, who is based in
Paris and is highly respected in the industry.
On the judges’ panel at the International Model and Talent As-
sociation convention in New York in July, I sat between talented
young actress and model Karlie Loland and super-agent Daniel
“Big D” Mahan, during the Fashion Print and Runway event. I
was interested to learn that they had both made the full circle from
attending IMTA as contestants, to being invited to attend as
judges. Karlie was very excited about her internship with a presti-
gious music company and proud that she was living and “surviving”
in New York.
“This has always been my dream so this year I decided to take
the plunge,” she said. “Within six months of leaving home, I had
sold my car, found an apartment here and started an internship. I
also work weekends as a nanny for a family in the Hamptons and
part-time for Barbizon USA, to support myself while I study the
music business. I am blessed to have great family support and
