F ifty-two contestants graced the run- way in Asia Pacific theme and fashions for the 2013 Guam Hemisphere Pageant, which is the product of two of the indus- try’s most-seasoned women trying some- thing different. Maria Little, President of Miss Hemisphere USA, said, “I always dreamed of taking my pageant overseas, fashion show-style. When Pageantry’s Au- gust issue featured a Guam model, I revis- ited the island paradise in October to col- laborate with my longtime friend, Belta Perez of John Robert Powers. It was the best working vacation I’ve had in years, test marketing the concept.” All contestants were dressed in pre- ferred attire that had some significance to the Asia Pacific region. Guest judge Mr. Won Bin Hong, a top Korean model and vocal artist, remarked on how different his experience was from the pageants he was used to judging in his country: “I’ve never seen this kind Pageant, but I en- joyed it very much.” Kristi Jones, an Alabama military de- pendent, decided to enter and was sur- prised when she was selected as Ms. Hemisphere PanAsia Guam. The surprises didn’t stop there, as each of the winners appeared in creative wear depicting their individual personali- ties. Commented Rubin Eclarino, the new Mr. Hemisphere: “It is difficult for a guy to find something that fits the theme, but I chose my look to make a state- ment—that Guam is where America’s day begins. I guess it worked!” Additionally, Dana Cruz, Reina Ross and Marina Flo- res wore striking historical, tropical cos- tumes with winning results, as they were crowned Miss Teen, Miss Pre-Teen and Little Miss, respectively. Japan’s Keigo Ki- tadete was also selected Mr. Teen. Rounding out the winners for the kids divisions were: Infant Girl Baila Marie Loomis; Infant Boy Ethan Ellis; Toddler Girl Geanna Cruz; Toddler Boy Calvin Aguero; Pee Wee Miss Nazaarah Sharma; and Little Master went to Aidan Schembari. Prizes for the new queens included a Disney trip to Japan, $10,000 in modeling scholarships, round-trip to iPOP! for the Hollywood competition, $500 college scholarships, and savings bonds to Peo- ple’s Choice fashion winners. □ Guam Hemisphere Winners Ms. Hemisphere PanAsia Guam ___Kristi Jones Mr. Hemisphere _____________Rubin Eclarino Miss Teen _____________________Dana Cruz Miss Pre-Teen _________________Reina Ross Little Miss __________________Marina Flores Mr. Teen ___________________Keigo Kitadete U NITED A MERICA & P ETITE U NITED A MERICA P AGEANTS The United America delegates went first, followed by the Petite United America delegates. H ollywood was the theme for the United America and Petite United America National pageant, with the first phase of competition—the Interview. The interviews gave the judges a good oppor- tunity to get to know the ladies better, as they asked questions on their views of pageantry and the overall experience of the competition. After the interviews were over, the contestants boarded a bus to go to the “Lone Star Riverboat” cruise, on which they would be enjoying a wonderful Texas barbecue. While cruising, the ladies en- joyed the sights of the Austin, Texas sky- line as well as the famous Congress Avenue bridge bats when they came out 100 PAGEANTRY to start their nightly feeding. The next day, after a rehearsal the ladies enjoyed lunch and then prepared for the main event. Group pictures were taken of everyone before the audience arrived and the competition began. Entertain- ment was provided by Cynthia Trinidad, Mrs. Petite United America, and Gabriel- la (Gabi) Cho, Miss Petite Teen United America, both whom performed dances. Emcee Kenny Peters also sang a few songs, and was assisted by reigning Miss United America Sherrie Gearheart. The ladies competed in On-Stage In- troduction, Fashion Wear and Evening Wear.
