YOUR LOOK fitness By Dustin Kellenberger Acting Your Age No matter how old you are, it’s never too late to find the right exercise routine for you, and it just might save your life ealth, according to the World Health Organization’s Constitution, is complete well-being. This is an in- corporated union of physical, mental, and social well- being, and not just being free from illness and disease. To truly be healthy, a person must be willing to find his or her perfect balance to make sure all three of these facets are attended to equally. And this becomes especially important as we grow older. Health also must be seen as an energetic process of constant modification to the fluctuating difficulties of living. Health and fit- ness require a lifestyle change that is reinforced by the benefits of physical fitness and a good nutritional program that balances sup- plements and protein intake with consistent workouts. The bene- fits have long been known, including the prevention of many diseases, such as obesity and diabetes, reduction of blood pressure, sharpening mental abilities, and helping to prevent heart disease. Overall, general fitness is a state of good physical condition and the result of regular physical activity and good diet. The focus of general exercise concentrates on strength, cardiovascular and respi- H ratory durability, and flexibility, and there is a great variety of ways to achieve strong health through general fitness. GET DOWN TO THE BASICS Staying away from junk food and keeping fit and flexible are important factors to help prevent injuries and maintain good joint function. Sleep also plays a vital role in our overall health, as the body and mind have a chance to reenergize for another day. Every part of the body benefits from total relaxation and rest obtained during sleep, including vital organs like the kidneys, lungs, heart, and digestive system. THE STANDARD DEFINITION The government guidelines for physical activity suggest only 2.5 hours of moderate activity per week. This can be easily accom- plished by taking the stairs instead of the elevator or parking fur- ther away from your destination. Physical fitness also enhances a person’s state of being and improves endurance, appearance, and attitude thanks to a renewed energy level. One of the greatest things about exercise is that it can actually improve your mental health. Regular exercise can help you feel less stressed, improve your self-esteem, and help you to feel ready to learn in school.
